Budget diy film making

It's fine for me to talk about using our own experiences to get ideas for a short film, but let's face it, most of our experiences are pretty tedius.
What we need is the 'What if' factor.
What if this  happened, instead of what actually happened.
So really, base your ideas for a short film on your experiences, don't actually make a short film about your experiences.
Unless you routinely get involved in exciting car chases with international terrorists or criminal organisations.
(sigh; another day, another exciting car chase.)

Shooting a short film - the tragedy factor

It's fun and entertaining when things don't always work out the way we expect them to do - as long as they don't work out for for someone else, of course.
This kind of situation is called 'tragedy' and it's the basis for many films, plays and novels.
It might be an idea to develop a sense of tragedy.
This doesn't mean that you have to be depressive, it just means that you have to be aware of the potential for tragedy.
More realistically, try to develop this awareness.

Short film 'Spirit Of The Wind'

Spirit of the wind

Spirit of the Wind is a short horror film\funny comedy film that features a girl spiritualist or ghost hunter who accidentally contacts a spirit or ghost that has a habit of farting.

How to get ideas for a short film

One way of getting ideas for a short film is to make use of your own  personal experiences, which is of course very similar to one of the recognised ways of getting  ideas for writing a novel or short story.
The idea for Spirit Of The Wind came to me after I became very slightly involved in the fringes of spiritualism.I went to a few spiritualist meetings and took a few shots at what is called 'auto writing.' Auto writing is trying to contact the spirit world - if it exists - by asking the spirits to contact you in writing.
Basically you have a piece of paper and with a pen or pencil lightly held between your fingers you ask the spirits to contact you by writing a message on the piece of paper. The idea  is, 'certain forces' - either your own certain forces or the spirit's certain forces or both - again, if they exist - make the pen or pencil write the message/s.
The key point is, you can also specify that you want only 'good spirits' or 'friendly spirits' to contact you. This is intended to warn evil spirits to stay away from you.
It's the key point because it creates an opportunity to speculate what might happen if your warning was ignored - if you attracted a bad spirit instead of a good one.
Obviously, my 'bad' spirit isn't really a bad person - he just can't stop farting.
This isn't so bad, who knows - maybe in life he was a very nice person.
